We are delighted at what students learn and create each and every year through our arts-rich programs—programs that you make possible.

The dozens of highly creative local teaching artists with whom we contract use performing and visual arts to teach math, science, language arts, and social studies, helping students meet learning goals in creative, active, enjoyable, and meaningful ways. Not surprisingly, the arts also help support students’ social and emotional needs. And independent evaluations of our work demonstrate that our approach works.

It is exciting to see students engaged and to witness what they accomplish through the arts. We’ve received notes from teachers about shy students speaking in front of their classmates for the first time and have seen middle schools explore complex emotions through songwriting. We also receive comments via our teacher surveys, such as:

“Students were able to apply their scientific thinking and problem solving skills to a new context. Designing … pop up books is essentially applying engineering skills to make paper pop. It was a great way to end the school year in my science classroom.”

“The fact that they were able to express themselves in writing in a different way. It gave them a look into culture and rap opposed to what they think rap is today.”

The connections between the arts, learning, and development are personal and deep, and what make Hartford Performs' programs so powerful. Your support makes them possible.

Your gift in 2024 will fund:
